Unusual cetacean stranding events of Taiwan in 2004 and 2005

چکیده

In early 2004 and in 2005, several unusual stranding events occurred Taiwan during a period when large-scale naval exercises were conducted on nearby waters. Gross examination of the partial remains two carcasses (a ginkgo-toothed beaked whale (Mesoplodon ginkgodens) pygmy killer (Feresa attenuata)) an intact Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus) revealed that former had internal injuries to structures associated with or related acoustics diving. The findings gross post mortem only specimens available for study suggestive may have contributed caused death at least one cetacean this region species other than whales also be susceptible such activities. With increasing number military region, more attention impacts activities cetaceans is needed.
